A FUN AFTERNOON IN DOWNTOWN NEW YORK CITY

Take the subway to Brooklyn and spend some time in DUMBO, a very cool, very up-and-coming area of NYC and then walk back to Manhattan via the Brooklyn Bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge, completed in 1883, is one of my favourite things to do while in NYC.  The bridge is 1.6 kms long so the key to not exhausting yourself is to take public transportation one way and walk back the other.  Definitely take a cab or the subway from Manhattan to Brooklyn and then walk back so your view is of the breathtaking Manhattan skyline.

When back in Manhattan turn left and head towards Battery Park and hop on the Staten Island Ferry, a free ferry service to, you guessed it: Staten Island.  The key to this activity is that it’s free and you float right past the Statue of Liberty offering a great photo op.

Once back in Manhattan you can walk ten mins up to the World Trade Center memorial grounds which are free to visit and a very somber yet beautiful memorial  (there is a cost to visit the inside 9/11 Memorial Museum).

We hopped on the subway again and had a wonderful dinner in Little Italy and shopped for goods in Chinatown.

Back up on 22nd street we visited the new 10 000 square foot Harry Potter NY store.  It's an AMAZING store for anyone who loves the beloved books and movies.  It was a magical stop on our trip.
